Tarp Requirements
New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law Section 380
New York State law requires that open vehicles transporting materials to a transfer station must cover the materials with a tarp. This includes pick-up trucks and trailers. The purpose of tarping is to prevent items from falling out or being blown out of the vehicle, and to keep trash and recyclables from becoming litter. Vehicles that are not properly tarped may be denied access to the facility or may be charged an additional fee.
